Resources and Tools

Recommended With Green TickmarkReaders and clients often want to know what resources and tools I use and recommend. You'll find some links on this page, but please also use the drop-down menu under “Recommended Resources” in the main menu above to find even more information and details about my favorite software, training programs, apps, and services.

Website Hosting

Hostgator: – Hostgator has been reliable and affordable for me. I use them for my blog,

BlueHost: – BlueHost has been a good solution for my various entrepreneurial endeavors when I want to experiment with a site until I'm sure whether or not it will be viable.

GoDaddy: – I use GoDaddy to buy all my domains. For a very small amount per year, you can reserve a domain name for future use and have the peace of mind no one else will take it. Have you reserved the URL for your own name? If not, do that right away — for yourself and your children. It's cheap insurance.

Email List Service Providers

Aweber: – I use Aweber because of their reputation in the industry, their commitment to keeping things simple, and their fantastic customer service.

Constant Contact: – I've helped several customers who use Constant Contact and have found them to be a very good company.

Social Media Management

Hootesuite – – from a single dashboard, you can post or schedule posts for all your social media platforms at one time. Absolutely essential for anyone active in social media. This is a free trial for Hootesuite Pro which is very reasonable and allows more platforms. I use this all the time.

Courses: Writing and Copywriting

“Step-by-Step Copywriting Course” taught by Karon Thackston: – Karon is a great teacher and makes you feel you can do everything she teaches. I have taken several of her classes and can highly recommend them.

“Marketing with Keywords” taught by Karon Thackston: – Karon's offers no-nonsense and extremely straightforward training on how to use keywords in your web writing to improve search engine optimization.

“Damn Fine Words” online business writing course taught by James Chartrand: – this course absolutely turbo-charged my confidence and writing skill. If you'd like to read a review of the course, CLICK HERE.

“Scrivener Unleashed” by David Martin: – fabulous training on how to use Scrivener, the affordable software that so many writers are using now to organize their writing projects

Video Training

Lou Bortone's website and trainings – –  have the best content on the “regular persons's” use of video in their business or on their website. I've met Lou and attended his seminars. He's the real deal.

Terrific webinars

“61 Publicity Ideas in 61 Minutes” by Joan Stewart (aka The Publicity Hound):

Social Media Success Summit – – the best online training for basic social media skills and strategies I've ever attended. Everything's recorded and available for a year following the live event, so you can listen at your own convenience. Michael Stelzner gets the best presenters year after year.

Software I use

Scrivener: for Windows or for Macintosh

Sanebox – – – the email management software that brings sanity to your Inbox

LastPass – – password protection management: the last password you'll ever need

Print publications

Success Magazine: – I never miss this monthly source of information and inspiration, edited by Darren Hardy and filled with wisdom and advice from successful entrepreneurs all over the world.

Rev up your projects, your business, or your life

Laura West's 30-Day Passion Project: – I've done these 30-day programs several times to help me focus on a particular project or goal in an environment of support and accountability.

Laura West's Center for Joyful Business: – Laura is always changing her offerings, but she is absolutely amazing at helping women get to the heart and soul of their big WHY and energizing them and their businesses in the process. She is one of my Pink Coattails mastermind leaders, and I have the deepest respect for her.

Stock Photography

Dollar Photo Club – – high quality images that are well-tagged so I can find something to go with almost any blog topic. At only $1 each, it's the best value I've found for quality stock photography.

Ebooks or special reports

Evernote Essentials by Brett Kelly – – I had no idea how robust and versatile Evernote was until I read this ebook. It will revolutionize the way you organize your notes. This is better than two or three others I got through Amazon.
